Houston, we have a problem! Please help.
After all the talk about leaky convertible line, I went ahead and made things even worse!
1. There was a slow green oil leak, over driver's feet at my XKR. I was told that this is due to some line splicing, supposedly done by some dealer..
2. True, there were two compression fitted quick connects, one on each line, in the area of left pillar. This is where oil was slowly leaking down the lines, over some electric cables and onto my feet.
3. I decided to redo compression fittings, where plastic line screws onto them and accidentally snapped one of the screws that goes into the plastic lines.
At this point I have option to try and find new fitting, or possibly replace the whole line perhaps?
The upper line, where the fitting was connected looks perfect and new, however the lower lines that go all the way to the pump look old and oily, with black outer insulation peeling off.
Please suggest what do to and where to get parts!!! Thanks again, as always!

So I assume that solid hose replacement is the safer way to go. Especially since old part of the hoses is a bit rotten looking, with black outer wrapping peeling off in chunks.
What is the difference between:
HJB-8256-AA - $225 at Welshent.com
and
HJB-8256-AB - $221 from few places.
Thanks

- Hydraulic Hose Evaluation for convertibles
- Replacement Hydraulic Hoses
- Removing and Replacing Hydraulic Hoses
- Roof Hydraulic Pressure Relief Valve
- Roof Hydraulic Fluid information
Following Gus's advice will give you peace of mind knowing that it will indeed be a one-time fix and well worth the investment in parts and time.
Good luck and let us know how it works out for you!

Could somone sell me their old quick conect fitting, for the time being?
I will order new hoses today, but not sure how soon I can get to do the job. For now it would be nice to be able to drive the car, due to nice weather and my wife stopping to criticise my mad mechanic's skills would also be nice...

And this is exactly why jaguar doing the splice. Cause the hose is deteriorated and the black outsheild coming off leading to leaks at the splice. Its always better to replace the whole thing. We did a couple and do to this problem we never did naymore even before jaguar pulled the plug. We also will not do splices when we have customers come in and ask or request it. All thos hoses are now even older and way out of warranty and if it wasnt a good repair under warranty it sure as hell aint gonna work well now

Also, as I uncovered the rest of the hose, it was already sweating oil through, in multiple places, along the way to the pump.
BTW, this job is not hard at all, if I was not fixing 5 other things on the way (ashtray, broken plastic brackets, steering column motor, rusty hole in the floor, replacing J-gate, welding cracked lower seat frame...), I'd be done in 3-4 hours, while watching kids go crazy in the yard.

Maybe I spoke too soon about 3-4 hours. This job is very annoying and tidious. I am all the way back, at the right rear corner and it is too dark in garage to continue. My eyes are not what they used to be, no more cat vision for me
I did fix hole in the floor and broken seat frame, from previous owner's fat can! I loved welding that seat frame, it went like butter

I am finally done with hydraulics and reassembling the interior. All I have left to put back is armrest.
OMG, to get it done properly (with all zipties and other minor tidying up) took me about 8 hours, plus another ~7 to fix 5-6 other issues I ran into.
Old lines were ready to blow in few placees, I found at least 3 areas where these were already sweating oil through.
Another fun thing I did, was reupholstering front roof liner. Fabric there was getting ready to sag down. 3M upholstery spray glue did wonders.
Thank you for all the advise, it would have been a lot harder without your guidance, especially Gus!

Mine had electric tape around the cut hose, so it fits tighter inside the fitting, how crappy is that!?

Its used in a few areas, especially around corners to protect from abrasion and hold in place, I meen there is a reason its called 200mph tape!!!!!

In any case, it is now all in the past and when voltage reduction kit from Reverend comes in, I will be able to drop and close my roof, even with the motor running and without turning blower fan all the way up
