For those of us that are handyman challenged when it comes to fixing things, we make up for it by searching for someone with the skills we need to get our issues fixed. The seat modules on my 2005 XKR are a perfect example and I want to share with you the contact information of the gentleman here in San Diego that has taken care of my modules and brought them back to life so that my wife no longer had to sit next to me with a pillow propped up behind her because the backrest would not move.
His name is Darrell Turner and he is a retired Navy electronics specialist. He fixed both my modules quickly and charged me $25 per module. If you want to save yourself some money and time searching for a replacement module or where to get it fixed, Darrell is your man. He can be reached at 858-649-9090. Send him your module and include a pre-paid, addressed return label with your package and you will have your seats back in action. Please tell him that you got his name from Marcel so that he knows why you are calling. I told him I would recommend him to my fellow kitty owners as I have gotten an immense amount of assistance from all the posters on this forum.

 

I just got my module back from Darrell and all functions work! He had to bridge 4 broken traces on the board. I had inspected the board under a lighted magnifying glass and could not see the breaks but they were obviously there.

Much more cost effective than trying to track down a used one.

He had it about 3 days, Friday, Sat, Sun, plus 4 days each way in the care and control of the USPS. He charged me $50 because of the number of repairs necessary. Still a lot less than finding an used one. Darrell also added an epoxy coating on each side of the edge of the board to keep the case damage from happening again. It probably wouldn't be a bad idea to run a bead of clear epoxy along that edge of any modules that currently work to keep the damage from happening in the first place.

With the bracket side of the case removed it fits nicely in a small USPS $5.80 'if it fits, it ships' box.

 

Nice, sounds like a great and cost effective easy fix.

Is this something we should perhaps add in to the "How to" FAQ section for ay others that may need to find this?

 

We might wait until we know how he holds up as he gets a couple hundred modules to repair. Just kidding. Perhaps we should ask him how he wants to handle the potential of more than a few modules arriving in his mailbox. I just left a message asking him to return my call.

 

I just spoke to Darrell and he is interested in all the module repair he can get so a link in the FAQ is appropriate.

Soldering the tiny connections on the printed circuit board is beyond the equipment and skills of most of us. I couldn't even see the breaks with the highest magnification in the house never mind having an iron with a tip like a needle.

Yes...I spoke with him about 4 weeks ago. I recommend that you contact him before shipping your module to work out his payment requirements, etc.

Darrell fixed my seat module and it works good as new. Highly recommend.

 

FYI -- Darrell is still taking in finicky modules (he has five of them right now, and he'll soon have a sixth). These days he charges a flat fee of $100.

 

Another recommendation for Darrell. Just finished successfully refitting the passenger module in my 2006 XKR which had been corroded by what looked like a soda spill. I was very impressed with the quality of the work he did and of course it worked right away once I plugged it all back together.

Darrell repaired my seat module for the passenger side in my XK8 over 3 years ago and still working great. I refer people to him all of the time.
