You could say I'm committed at this point... or should be. But it's become a great karma experience.
I'm enjoying the project thoroughly, and the neighbors are even watching it like a TV miniseries. What I've replaced, so far:
All supercharger hoses
Supercharger gaskets
Part load breather tube
Full load breather tube
Intake pipe
Coolant level sensor MAP sensor
MAF sensor
Transmission control module
Both fuse boxes (Front)
All relays
Quarter panel (right)
Center gauge cluster
Radio
Both Rear Quarter Windows
All shocks
All bushings
All control arms
Rear main seal
Torque Converter seal
Primary and secondary timing tensioners and chains
Cam cover gaskets
And of course all fluids and filters. My goal? This is a rustless example of a 2001 XKR and I intend to bring it back to as near as it left the factory. What I'm chasing now is a few intermittent FAILSAFE MODE no starts, and intermittent suspension faults. The wiring is crispy and I have some long nights ahead of me with the voltmeter.
Just remember... nothing good is easy, and nothing easy is good.
Way ahead of you! Those are just the scooters I kept. The shop I used for the real heavy lifting even has a shop Vespa now. I do about 10 of these every spring/summer for fun.
Well, you're knee deep in it now. But I guess that's why people generally say to buy the very best example you can afford, or you may end up replacing everything. Of course I applaud your efforts. Saving a Jag is worth every penny (as long as you're doing it !).
Trust me, I'm more intrigued than your neighbors. lol At the end of the day it's a machine that can certainly be fixed and you sound like you're up for the challenge. However, that 4000lbs of nuts, bolts, ten miles of wire and three different electrical systems all trying to communicate and work together may have other ideas. If you have the patience to troubleshoot and ask questions from the members here you can do it. Just don't quit lol Good luck and keep us posted.
