Default 01 xk8 stereo problem

Non Nav system just quit working, stereo was fine when I turned off the car yesterday morning. Went to lunch and no radio for about 5 minutes and then it just came on. Today no radio at all, is there a wiring problem with these radio's?
I just hooked up USB a month ago and now this, seems like I fix one problem and another creeps up.

USB goes the through antenna, so I do not think that is a problem.

stereo doesn't often fail, I've seen maybe a handfull on here over the last 5 years.

No display? did the aerial rise when you turned on the tuner? Might be a loose connection behind the radio, those big connectors do snap into the housing.

Have not had a chance to check behind the radio yet, visiting the kids this weekend. I will do that though, thanks for the advice.

Noticed last night that everytime I turn the key ON, the light on the radio will flicker and every once in a while it will come on.

Does anybody know how the radio gets it's power in a 01, when the key is turned on?

It'll get power on the ACC setting, key position 1. If its flickering, that can't be good. The short could be internal as well as internal...yay you!

This is what I have noticed, if I turn the key to the 'ON' position, but not start the car, then wait for the radio to come on and then start the car, the radio will work every time.
When I forget to do this and start the car, no radio and if I turn the car off and try to do the key ON trick, I still get no radio. But if I wait 5 minutes and then do the key ON, the radio will come on.
I thinking I have something either wrong with my ignition switch or something wrong with the wiring for the power wire to the radio.

Only the radio affected?

The harness connector is the yellow multiplug visible at the top of the gear lever in this pic:

Not unknown for the black lever lock on this multiplug to come loose. You may just need to pull the radio out and make sure it's properly locked on.
