Default 01 XKE stereo upgrade

Want to add an aftermarket Nav system and looks like the flip outs are the only type that will work.

I have searched the forum and the only threads I saw were kind of dated, 08-09 timeframe.

Crutchfield does not show any that will fit, but they didn't show any for my last car either, but I found one.

So, any recommendations for a replacing my base stereo system?

if you want a double din, you'll have to relocate the auxiliary row of buttons (hazards, fogs, traction control) and then you can get one to fit. ive seen a couple of them done that way, the buttons moved to inside the glove box.

Or, find a dying breed, the motorized flip-out single din units, kenwood still makes one, pioneer, and clarion does also.

you'll need a faceplate to get a single din in that hole cleanly, but there are two parts you'll need to make that happen, a dealer piece ($70) and a nexxia fascia for a 97 xj6...that's what I did.

I would like the double din, but I tend to take traction control off when I drive and that would be a real pain in the glove box.

I have noticed that flip outs are not being made as much, but I think it would look the nicest and more stock looking.

What dealer piece would I need?

Is there any depth problems?

no, its tight, but a little wire loom tucking here and there, my single din fit. A double din, I can't say for sure.

What system did you get?

Also, did you replace the speakers too?

randy, I went with a jvc ADV49, predecessor of their recent AVX77. Its not a flipout, as I wanted to keep my buttons above the stereo unabated by a screen. I used my navigation screen as a video monitor from the radio however, so I wasn't losing anything.

As for speakers, yah, i've changed them all out. I've got two threads in the audio/visual section of the forum showing all those attempts at satisfying my inner audiophile.
