Default ' 01 xkr supercharger rattle repairs help

I have just started to notice a slight rattle in my Eaton supercharger (55,000 miles). Technican at the Jag dealership doesn't seem too concerned at the moment but I am. They seem more prone to replace than repair. Is there anything repair or refurbishing that I should be considering now before this problem gets worse and costs me big bucks?

Many thanks,

Richard

It might just be the coupler, which is cheap to get, but it is some work to get the SC out, as that is required. Take of the SC belt, and check how much play is in there (without turning the rotors).

If the cause are the bearings, then I would not think it is worth to repair, it is way more cost effective then to buy a second hand 4.2 SC. These are quieter due to the helical gears, have stronger bearings so will last much longer, and are slightly more effective due to their special rotor coating.

You can get rebuild kits on Ebay, from just couplers and fresh oil to complete kits with seals and bearings, up to $60.

Snout bearings yes, rotor bearings might also be cheap, but you need special tools to time them so it will be an expensive job to do (as you need others to let it do…).

Just an FYI, rear bearings (needle races) are easy to change and no special tools are required.
