02 jaguar xk8 convertible small windows
My rear small windows will not roll up both sides and I find it strange that both will not function when the top goes up and down. I think that I hear the motors running when trying to cycle the small windows. Again I find it strange that both will not function. Oh and I don’t hear the bell sound when the top goes up. I use to hear that bell thingy chime when top is actuated. Battery is charged as well. The top works as it should just the small windows will not function up or down and in the halfway window position.

These regulators have some of the crappiest design in the world. The windows is operated by a cable. This cable wraps around a spool attached to the motor. The cable runs from the spool to a couple of pulleys. In a fit of idiocy Jag/Ford used a cheap plastic pulley with a bushing. This cheap-o pulley is the only mechanism that keeps the cable aligned on the spool. Over time that pulley's bushing wears and the pulley no longer rotates in the correct plane. It tilts. Once the tilt reaches a certain point the cable no longer winds correctly on the spool, the cable gets all monkeyed up (a technical term) and the motor jams. Alternatively, the plastic spool breaks and something similar happens. This is a known issue with these crummy regulators.
The only solution is to remove the regulator and repair it. Kits are available to replace the spool and pulley. However, I found it best to send the regulator off for a complete rebuild. If you're in the States there's a company that fixes them and replaces that plastic pulley/bushing with a metal pulley, an actual bearing, and a strong metal post. It will outlast the car. I can dig up a link if you want it.
It's a rather involved process, but doable with normal hand tools and a large dollop of patience. jagrepair.com has a wonderful write-up with pix.
Check the fluid level at the pump for your roof. If it is below the top embossed line fill it. The rams for the roof lift must complete the travel of the roof or both windows will not go up.

They also have an eBay presence and, IIRC, the price was slightly cheaper. Due to a brain f*rt I neglected to take a pic of the finished product. But the new pulleys were incredibly beefy. The thing arrived refurbed, re-greased, and ready to be installed (after I reattached the glass)
