'02 XK8 Wholesale Value?
I recently purchased an '02 XK8 Coupe. Without going into great detail, there is suspicion of fraud on the dealer/seller's part. Following are some of the details about the car itself:
Mileage: 168,000
Body: No major damage. Typical small dings. Good original paint.
Interior: Clean and very presentable.
Defects!
Bad windshield washer bottle sensor.
Bad upper shock mounts
Questionable suspension rubber
Cracked radiator overflow bottle
Bad transmission. Needs to be replaced.
Steering column up/down intermittent.
Steering column fore/aft non functional
Air bag warning (Code 23)
Speaker behind passenger window broken.
Radio antenna non functional.
Gas gauge sensor bad.
I'm sure there are more problems that I've yet to discover. What I'm interested in is what is this car worth with the above mileage and defects? Thank you in advance for any insight that you might have!

Briefly, I purchased the car from a charitable no reserve site. That site indicated that I could pay for the car, via PayPal, to a third party. That party turns out to be a dealer who was also the prior owner of the vehicle. The dealers name is also on the title. Not as a dealer but as an individual. When I spoke to him he indicated that he knew the transmission was bad so he "donated" the car. We can now eliminate the charitable party, as my privity of contract is now with the dealer who sold a defective vehicle and failed to disclose the defects.
What I'm trying to determine is what would this car sell for at auction were the defects disclosed prior to the sale.

Personally, the only thing on that list that stands out and makes the value of the vehicle tank is the transmission. All the little stuff you have pointed out as wrong are not enough for a charitable seller to care about. they don't go over the car. I personally think the car is worth $500 to $750 in its current state but I am not a wholesaler or a dealer, just a regular guy who likes Jags.

Ah yes brgjag, but remember that I didn't know that I was buying the car from a dealer until after the purchase. His agent, the charitable site stated that "This vehicle runs fair and drives fair". The tranny went south, during rush hour, in the middle lane of the 60 freeway. Not a pleasant experience. In fact, it could be argued that it was a definite safety hazard. My intent is to go after the dealer for fraud.

Good luck. Some states have higher standards for used cars sold by dealers. I would suspect you did not pay much in the first place with those high miles so I dont think you will get more then the purchase price less fmv back, best case, but I hope you get a lot more!
KBB fair condition is $2400, I would say $1000 would be the price in the condition you noted.

I had a similar issue when I bought my 2002 XK8 but it was from a dealer in Tennesee. I drove there to check the car and it seemed in good shape, a bit more body flaws than in the photos. The title was a new copy with a woman's name on it and I came to find out later the dealer had owned it himself, never maintained it properly and had transferred it to her name a year before.
They had known of the coolant issues and the leaking power top lines at the pump as well of several other fairly expensive issues. It was Jack legged repaired to hold together for a few days. After I bought it within a week, coolant leaks started, he put in stop leak!!!!, had filled the top hydraulic pump so it finally leaked out after three cycles, at least in the trunk, no green shower, and the AC went bad, they had charged it just before I got there. Oh, he also used old school shock lifting thingies to lift the front shocks, which were totally shot as well as the back.
My attorney tried the lemon law but it didn't transfer from NC to TN. So I've put 6-9k into repairing everything over the last couple years.
Honestly, I love this car and continue to fix anything as it comes up, only wish I could do more mechanical. I've rstored the body and interior, a lot of that myself, but engine is too advanced for me. My old triumph was easy compaired to this!! Lol.
Again, I don't think you have a good chance of recouping any $. Since you've repaired some already, I think the lemon law may be shot. And there's a time limit as well.

I love these type of post.
They start out as if they are in a real situation and want help, then proceed to admit--- after many reply's-- that they have already fixed most of the problems they were concerned about and really love the car etc,etc..
A real waste of time for everyone who was trying to help.....as in this case, you know he had already found out what the wholesale value is..........geezzz!
