Exclamation 1997 oil in air intake

My 97 XK8 runs very rough. The check engine light comes on an the message reads poor engine performance. I cleaned the throttle ***'y and found oil in there. Also oil in the tube going from the air filter to the throttle ***'y. It appears to be dirty oil and I recently had the oil changed. Anyone have any ideas??

moved you to a new thread in the xk8/R subsection since the previous thread you posted to was discussing the transmission issue.

The 'dirty' oil is being blown out the breather tube into the air duct between the filter and throttle body and perhaps contaminated by particles in the air flow. Symptom of blowby of air around the rings. Try RESTORE or a similar product.

Have the codes read and post them back here. Most auto parts stores will read for free although my local Advance AP says they are stopping that practice.

A plugged Part Load Breather could contribute to the problem.

Fingers crossed it's just a blocked breather, I had the same thing on my XJR and removed and cleaned/cleared out the breathers, inside of the intake and the MAF which not only stopped the CEL's but gave the old girl a bit more punch

Have a quick search on here for how to do the breathers, and while your at it clean the MAF. Get all the oil out of the intake and go for a drive.
If your engine still pulls and starts without difficulty fingers crossed it is the simple fix and not he dreaded N word...

(Nikasil before anyone gets the wrong ideas )

The FAQ thread at the top of the XK8/R subforum has a link to the cleaning instructions of that part load breather.
