Default 1997 xk8

car has 64000 miles, and just had timing chain, water pump etc. replaced. its like the car has a ghost. the warning gauges, like bulb in rear out, when they are all working. also, when car is driven for over 10 miles, the temp gauge flutters, then drops into the red at idle. temp stays the same, and the tach stays at 700 rpms. does a computer need to be re booted, or something?

It does do some re-learning/resetting, but not that much. How much have you driven it/started it since it rololed out of the shop?

Sounds like a "connection" issue.

Tail light holder ***'y has ground wire deficiency. There's probably a post or two here with pictures to show how to add/repair a proper ground. Pretty typical for a lot of european cars.

Temp gauge sender wire may be loose at the sending unit.

Tach - I've seen several, myself included, mention the instrument panel connector loose/needed reseating.

thanks for the help. just put 7500 into this 97 xk8, and these little things like driver window only holding its program for one or door openings, is driving me nuts.

If your battery is tired it will play havoc with all those sensitive electrical components.
