Default 1997 XK8 cigarette lighter

Hi

The cigarette lighter on my 1997 XK8 has disintegrated ( the plastic parts inside have become brittle and broke)

There are a lot of generic cigarette lighters (ie non Jaguar) on the internet - has anyone used one of these?

Thanks for your help

Regards

John

John,

A.f.a.i.k. they are a standard diameter and push fitting.

Provided you get an illuminated one, the only difference is likely to be the shape of the black plastic lighter head.

Same thing on my XK. Went to dealer and they wanted $60 or $70 for a factory replacement, so went looking at Ford/Lincoln for something similar to no avail. Generic fixit stand at local parts had nothing I wanted so I fished out all the bits of green plastic and stuck them together with crazy glue holding parts in place with scotch tape until glue dried. Wasn't quite round after and wouldn't fit into hole until I introduced it to the Dremel and it's still holding up after a year and a bit. Easy project and cost was minimal.

Funny thing is I don't smoke but wanted the car to be put together and it's also handy for the phone charger.

Good advice but I never have smoked just looking to make a rather boring plastic part more exciting

I would think that with the majority of drivers now being non-smokers, unused and unnecessary lighters should be available in droves. For example, my socket is permanently assigned to my GPS unit, so the lighter resides elsewhere in the car. I forget where, actually.
