Hola mi amigo...can this setup be accomplished with a "premium ice" audio setup?

Thanks for all your contributions as well!

Both H2Oboy and I did the same thing (but H2Oboy was first). Garman makes an aftermarket unit, GVN-53, that is designed to use the OEM Nav screen. Our head units do tie into the Nav screen but only to play movies. There are many options for upgrading the Nav, some simple, some very complex. The GVN-53 is fairly straight forward and I'm happy with it, especially since I just upgraded my maps to May of 2012.

Mark

Just adding to Mark's answer, a PAC VCI-X or equivalent composite video to RGB adapter is also needed to convert a composite video source (such as the GVN-53) to work with the OEM monitor. See my write up https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...traffic-49241/ for more details.

Also, I make a plug and play adapter (www.thejagwrangler.com) to greatly simplify the interconnect. If you are interested, please contact me for details, as these are made custom to match your exact needs.

Depending on how what time of the year, I'd drive 500 or so miles for a day or two. I've corresponded with so many individuals here, I call them friends but I have rarely had the opportunity to meet them in person. It is enjoyable, when I can.

Does anyone have a wiring diagram for the premium audio system in a 1997 XK8? I have a new head unit (along with new amp) but would like to use the current amp and not mess with installing the new amp. I have not been successful finding and adaptor for the 6 pin DIN connector to the amp. I don't need to connect to the CD changer as I will be using USB connections to iPod or iPhone. Thanks for your input.

To have everything, including the electrical schematics for your car, I recommend just downloading the JTIS software from the forum, its an old version, no longer used, so its acceptable to share it. If you go to the top of this subforum, look for the FAQ/DIY thread, you'll see the link to get the files and how to install it. It has general specs, removal and replacement instructions, DTC explanations specific to your MY, and of course everything electrical, in PDF. Great asset for any xk8 owner.

Stop by the new member area and introduce yourself, its tradition.

Notice I said "from where did you buy it", not "where did you buy it from". I don't want Paul Pavlik giving me a hard time for ending a sentence in a preposition! LOL! By the way, Paul's last name must be spelled wrong because there's a little red squiggly line under it!

Oh, I crack myself up. Or maybe it's the beer. My first beer in a month and one beer gave me a buzz.
The word which you seek is "whence" as in "whence did you get it?"

It looks like H2O's head unit has a tilt mechanism and this combined with also being black and bulkier I agree it does lot more factory than my silver one.

The truth be told if I could get bluetooth/ phone and ipod (with control of it) on the origonal unit I would put it back in. I do like to keep the inside looking origonal when I can.

regards
Check out the JVC AVX77. I put it in my xjs an it is amazing. It has everything. Tilting screen, capture screen saver pic. Streaming Bluetooth and pandora, steering wheel control access I mean everything!! Sounds great.

Now I'm looking for that adaptor you've used for my xK8. Can you give me part number???

Its always a hit and miss trying to find harness adapters for jaguars, especially the xks. S'types and Xtypes would be more likely, due to the numbers produced. If you give your shop the electrical schematics of the audio system, a posi-tap connector will work just as well and you won't have to cut off the old harness. Give a google search for places over in the UK, they tend to have aftermarket stuff for the jags before the US does.

Sorry, forgot to mention its for a 2002 XK8.
The issue seems to be the factory amp. My installer says it may not work unless he has the correct harness. I assumed he could simple identify the correct wires on the factory loom and connect to the head unit wires.
I have no plans to reuse the factory stereo so I don't see why he can't simply cut the plug and wires off the back just as he did in my xjs, unless the factory plug is a direct plug into the back of the factory unit.

Probably better off buying a new amp anyway to work.with your new speakers of differing impedence.

That's the point. I want to keep factory speakers. They sound awesome and I really don't want to put much more $ in the audio as I'm having car repainted and Arden ground effects installed! $$$$$$$
I'm not versed in audio past a simple plug and play or the occasional speaker sorting out so I'm not understanding the issue with simply using amp access from head unit to the factory amp. Are they not compatible?

I need help!
I've ordered both the early radio fascia with the switches panel and the adaptor b
I'm trying to order a dash kit in gloss black to finish the cheap plastic finish bit for the life of me I can't find a single model year that this radio/switch panel came from. What year or model was this single din fascia come from. The dash kit guy says he'll custom make the black pieces if I can get him the year and model.

I make my own fascias as below and use Autoleads PC99-X10 for the stalk controls, if you have an Alpine amp you will not get it to work with any other head unit but if you have a Harman Kardon you can.

Not the best pic in the world but you get the idea

phil, you shoudn't need anything else but the 94-97 xj6 fascia, and that adapter you mentioned. The single-din radio just drops in. Your accessory buttons go right into the xj6 fascia like your original one did.
