1999 XK8 stopped running while on the highway - 'RESOLVED'
Car died with the wife driving it, the dash only said "STALLED ENGINE", and the yellow check engine light is on. No codes, except P1111. It will start, sort of. It sputters then quits after about 3 seconds. It runs better for a few moments with starter fluid. Also, there's no fuel pressure at the fuel test port on the fuel rail. There's 12 volts at the fuel pump, and its grounded, but I'm not sure if the pump is actually working. Can anyone help?

Welcome to the forum Dave,
That looks like a good self-diagnosis and 'get-you-home' fix in the twenty seven minutes between your first and second post!
Check the HOW TO section at the top of threads here for advice on the fuel pump.
When you get a few minutes, please post in New Member Area - Intro a MUST to introduce yourself and your XK8 to all members.

I swapped fuel pumps going through the speaker hole like others have done on this forum. The only sketcky thing I did was re-use the good parts of the burnt/melted wire harness leading to the fuel pump. I spliced it into the new wires, and its working fine...so far(see pic). I saw on the forum that wire harness from the dealer costs a ridiculous amount. The total cost for the job was $106.83 at Autozone(Airtex fuel pump and Airtex fuel strainer).

You did a nice neat job. You are right that the replacement wires are outrageously priced.
I do not want to be a 'Debbie downer', but the only thing that worries me about your repair is whether the plastic insulation on the crimps can survive living in a bath of gasoline. Time will tell.
