Default 2000 XK8 leaper emblem

My emblem lost its leaper insert. I have acquired a replacement and wonder how the piece is attached to the passenger side fender? The chrome bezel is still there just missing the green insert. I guess there is access to the mount if I remove the inner fender cover? Or would the better method be to remove the insert from the replacement and silicone it in? If that is the case will heat release the adhesive? Thanks in advance for any comments or suggestions.

The one on the side of the car does have double face tape on it so the use of a hot air gun should help in the removal.

Default Side Leaper

Hey Denny,
I just picked up a 01 and it is missing the Leaper on the passenger side also.
Where did you find a replacement?
Thanks, Terry

I found it on this site in the classifieds. autobohn kid has a couple of cars he is parting out. The heat gun approach did not yield the result I wanted. got it pretty hot but the emblem stayed put. I guess I will pull out the wheel liner and see if I can find the attachment point. good luck in your search

Dental floss works great for getting it off and it doesn't harm the paint.

The emblem I have received has the chrome bezel. It appears that the whole thing would be secured by a clip on the inside. I have not had the chance to remove the wheel and liner to see if I can see it.

If the one on the car is the same as the replacement you will need to push on the front of the emblem pushing to the rear of the vehicle and lifting the front at the same time.
A plastic putty knife should work well prying off the old one while pushing it to the rear.

Thanks. I can only guess that the one on the car is the same as the one on my desk. I hate to start prying not knowing for sure. Thanks

You can remove the wheel well liner and just about push it out from inside. The one I have has double face tape on it so the dental floss on the outside of the emblem will help.

Did you find a clip inside or does it just push, slide and lift out?
thanks

Markmbaha1..........

Sorry!!!...I went into my old supply of Jaguar Stuff and found (2) Red Leapers that came from my 1998 XK8.....I replaced them with Clear Lensed Repeater Lights....The Coupe had the Turn Signal wiring in the Fender-Well....So, I put in some Clear Lens Turn Signals on instead of the Leapers.....which have to be pushed toward the Front/Back to install or uninstall. The answer to your question about the removal/replacement of the Leapers is:

"They have sticky Tape on the back that holds them on ...Just replace the Two-Sided "Sticky Tape" and stick them back on"....Or..."Use some Clear Silicone or any color for that matter!" The Photo shows where the Tape should be placed (See Photo) You can see where the Tape was on your Photo but someone has removed it! ...

Wow, thank you. Some tough tape, wonder where to get it? Actually I only need the green part. The chrome is stuck on there solid. Do you know how to get the green part and cat off the chrome?
Thank you!!!

Denny,
Are you still here? Did yiu find out how to replace just the green leaper part? Mine fell off the chrome too. The replacement has the chrome on it. So trying to take it off and stick to the chrome on the car.
