Default 2000 XK8 radio screen not turning on.

I have tried everything from fuses 9 and 12, checking the ground in the footwell, removed radio to see if wires were corroded, pressed on/off on volume knob, put the code in that came with the radio, so far nothing has worked, if anyone can help in aiding me or to tell me if the radio is bad, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks in advance.

Hey buddy. If your radio plays music but is not lit up, you got burnt out light bulbs. Mine (97 xk8) had like two light bulbs in the whole console area working, between radio, hazard/asc off and a/c module. Most were rectified by taking unit out, removing bulb/holder and sanding contact points or bending tabs for a better/tighter connection.

the radio however requires a bit more skill, to dismantle and unsolder/remove bulbs and replace with new. Not extremely hard if you can solder on circuit boards.

if radio does not play any music and also Doesn’t light up, and you’ve checked fuses could be a bad unit, bad wiring connection or something else. Let me know if it is former or latter scenario as I’ve found bulbs that work for cheap and also the little “condoms” on them to alter color and can advise a little on how the fix

Did you open the head unit up at all and check inside? I saw a post here about a resister that goes bad in these and opened mine up but didn’t have the resistor cause mines an early model. Do you have a cd player or amp in the trunk?

I have a cd player, but i didn’t know these had a resistor inside them, i kinda just though the fuses took care of regulating the amps they need, i’ll check it out.

Do a search for radio resistor or head unit resistor or something like that there’s a really good post about it with good pictures
