2000 XK8 won't start.
Hi all. I'm Kirk. First post. I recently purchased a 2000 XK8. Previous owner passed away, RIP, and his son sold to me. Anyway, something was draining the battery. I bought I portable starter until I could get it checked out but today, when I tried to start I just get a click. Power is working, all lights on but nothing. I've looked around the forum but can't figure it out. Before calling AAA I wanted to post here first. There is great experience and advice. I thank all of you too, I wish I knew a 10th of the stuff I'm reading. -Kirk
Simtrick, because of the car sitting for a number of years (from the sounds of things), your problem could be nothing more than getting a new battery. Letting a battery sit and do nothing is about the worst thing you can do to it (completely draining it and then recharging it is worse). So, I would first pull the battery, take it to a parts store and have them do a load test on the battery. Anything less than 75% capacity, I would be getting a new battery. See what you have then.
Next, if the car has sat for a number of years, I would be getting a 5 gallon gas can for 5 gallons of new fuel and a bottle of dry gas. Put that in the tank. Kinda like I would probably say to do an oil change just to get rid of the oxidized oil that is in the engine. This is cheap insurance.
I would let the crank over a few times and see what you have. May want to also turn the key to the RUN position, wait 5 seconds, then finally roll it to the START position. This will allow the fuel pump to pressurize the fuel rail and get fuel all the way to the fuel injectors prior to starting the engine. This way you have fuel at the ready should the engine catch.

Thanks guys I appreciate the replies. I moved some connections around the starter and got it starting again. I'm sure it is the battery as well though. Taking it to an auto shop on Monday. Appreciate you guys thanks
