Anyone have an original FUNCTIONAL Navigation/Display unit (part # LJD2440AC/AD/AE) gathering dust? Perhaps you replaced your Navi with the 3-gauge setup, or a modern head-unit? I would be interested in your old part. My original unit has developed a case of cow-pox, a series of largish bubbles of the screen around its periphery (delaminating?). Ugly, ugly. I would like to have a display, albeit old, that does not offend mine eyes.
Yup, I’ve been looking at those, but hesitating about unwittingly getting another door-stop from a recycler. I was hoping for a win/win with a fellow forum member with a known, fully functional unit. Minus that, I may just have to take a leap of faith….
Why not just replace the screen with a Garmin DriveSmart 55? Up to date maps, touch screen, speed camera locations, and the ability to add a back up camera, while looking practically OEM.

Lots of threads on how to do this on the forum.
I have already spent hours studying those threads. All that looks great, but it is just more than I want to get into at the present time. I have a hand-held Garmin that meets my minimal Navi-needs. It would be a jottle to just do a one-for-one original swap.
For those of us not mechanically or electronically inclined, its too bad there isn't someone who can make a plug and play option to do this. I would like to do it because my Garmin connects to a backup camera.
SCMike, if that one doesn’t work, I plan on replacing my original navi unit in the next few months to upgrade to a modern look. You can certainly have it for shipping costs.
Now back to looking for all the correct stereo pieces for the upgrade.

Hello, I have one from a 2001 XK8 convertible. At time of removal it looked fine..replace it with the 3 guages. It's boxed for storage..will have to find & check on current appearanece.

Becky - thanks for the response. I do think that I have a replacement already on its way.
Hi Mike ... My display bubbled as well about two or three years ago so I know what that looks like and that it's making you nuts. I looked into about every alternative to replacing the Nav screen and I finally went with the three gauge conversion. The hardest part was finding a good set of matched dash veneers in order to do the conversion. My dash was perfect (not a mark) and had a great Burl Walnut grain so I hated having to replace it but, I did end up finding a nice set. Of course I took great joy in throwing my Nav screen in the trash. Good luck and let us know what you decide to do. I do prefer the gauges. I was thinking of ordering the trim rings but don't like the way they look on the three gauge cluster? But, this was a nice dash.
To close out this thread....
Over the past 9 months, my XKR's navigation unit's display screen began to delaminate (I think) something fierce, with the outer perimeter of the screen increasingly covered in large bubbles. I decided to try and find a (cheap) original unit to do a one-for-one replacement. I was not interested in upgrading to more modern navi hardware - all I used the display for was as a nice clock, but that was becoming so ugly that it grated on my nerves.
I was offered a navi unit out of a 2001 XKR that looked to fill the bill, with a display that only showed a few, very small bubbles. My one hesitation was that my 2006's navi had part #LJD2440AE, while the 2001's was part # LJD2440AC - could the difference be in the firmware or something else that might cause an issue? The replacement was very easy: pop off the center dash trim panel (see YouTube for easy DIY techniques), undo four mounting screws, release two harness plugs, pull out the 2006 unit, offer up the 2001 unit and reverse the previous steps. Turn the key on to apply power to the replacement unit, and.....the clock reappears on the replacement unit's screen with the exactly correct time. Easy - peasy. No issues at all.
I wonder about the difference in the part numbers, and the fact that the older part had fewer display screen defects compared to the newer part. Functionally the two units seem to behave identically. Perhaps the transition from "AC" to "AE" just reflected the use of "cheaper" screen materials in the revised unit? I'm curious if there is any significant difference in the rate at which screen defects develop in the two part numbers? I assume my installed 2001 unit will continue its screen degradation, but hopefully at a slower rate than my original. At some point, I may just hit the "OFF" button.
A polling? What model year car and the state of its original display screen?
Hey Mike I think the reason for the change was probably an update of some kind. Let’s face it the Nav system was pretty good for 1996 when the first x100s had them but, fast forward to 2003 and they were well overdue for an update. The system was still not great but maybe there were more pixels, less glare, etc.
The nav screen on my wife's 2006 XK8 Victory Edition convertible started to show a few bubbles a couple of months ago. Like yours, it is only used for the clock these days. The easiest and cheapest fix is to just turn it off....
