Default 2000 XKR airbox modification

I have heard on later XKR models there is a secondary opening in the airbox where additional air can enter when needed.
The single snorkel looks very restrictive.
Has anyone ever tried adding a second tube 2-3 inches in diameter (whatever dia fits best) forward from the bottom of the airbox to the area behind the headlight? 3" dia pipe would probably double flow of cool air so worth pondering!!!
There seems to be a good flow of cold air in this area, and all you would have to do is cut a hole in the bottom/forward area of the airbox and a matching hole in that little plastic panel in back of the headlight and jam the tube into the hole in the airbox. Tube would only be a few inches long and pretty hidden. Glue in with silicone sealant, paint black and should be good to go for almost free!
Would be totally hidden and the smog tech would never see it on visual inspection
And avoids the introduction of hot air into the intake like some of the other solutions/ideas.
Thoughts or improvements?
Thanks!!!!

I can tell you this. On my 2005 XKR, there's a secondary flap facing the head light----and it breaths hot engine air! What where they thinking..,

Designed and built in Coventry, UK - hot air would never have entered their minds!
