Default 2000 XKR wiper/ BPM problems - RESOLVED

Hi,
I have a problem with the operation of my wipers on my XKR, when I operate them the hazard lights flash and I cannot turn them off. I think the problem relates to the BPM, has any body had a similar problem? Is there a reset I can conduct, does the module need reflashing? Your help would be greatly appreciated
Norm

Welcome to the forum Norm,

Have you eliminated possible switch and harness faults before suspecting the BPM? I'd put this down as the "nuclear" option at the bottom of the troubleshooting list.

As a newbie you can't download attachments directly from the forum but if you don't have the XK8 2000 Model Year Electrical Guide you can download it free from here:

When you get a minute, please follow this link New Member Area - Intro a MUST - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum to the New Member Area - Intro a MUST forum and post some information about yourself and your vehicle for all members to see. In return you'll get a proper welcome and some useful advice about posting to the forum.

The Lucas company is dead and buried but the Prince of Darkness can still come back to haunt us.

So after you saying that when you turn them on they do not park and shut off when the switch is moved to off?

In any other car I would suspect the park circuit is failing to remove the ground to the motor, but hey, this is a Jag so maybe the BPM controls that too.

Hi
sorry for the late reply, it's a not a park problem, but when I turn the wipers on the hazard lights start flashing. Not a normal sequence, but as if there is a timer making them flash. The wipers themselves operate normally, intermittent wipe, normal speed and fast, also in auto, but throughout these sequences the hazard lights flash as if they were on a timer. When i turn the wipers of, they park, but I have to turn the hazard lights off at the switch

Not read of this before. Both are functions of the BPM, although I can't see any wiring common to both switches.

Has it always behaved like this? If not, was any work done prior to the fault appearing?

You could try a hard reset:- Gus explains it with pictures:
JagRepair.com - Jaguar Repair Information Resource

Make sure you have the radio code in hand, and you'll need to reset the window memories afterwards.

Hi Michaelh
no it's not always done this, it started about 3 weeks ago, have checked relays, wiring Tec, but need to dig a little deeper. I have tried a hard reset, but does this process reset the bpm?
thanks

Update
I have found the fault, it's associated with the hazard light speaker, mounted on the steering column. I always have the steering column on auto park and when I inspected the wiring with the wipers operating, I moved the speaker wires and the fault stopped. I have not found the cause of the wiring fault, needs more investigation to totally repair the fault, but up to now the hazards don't come on with the wipers. I turned the auto park off as well.

If you haven't been in there yet, the wires to the stalk switches are inexplicably stiff, and over time can (will) break at the switches. I would not be surprised if you find your fault originated from there.

Default Xkr wiper/ hazard warning light problem, solution I believe

Hi everyone
I think I have solved the problem, even though the wiper relays operated the wipers correctly, when I swapped them with each other the hazard warning got worse and I couldn't turn them off without pulling the earth off the battery. I checked each relay with a 12v supply and a multimeter, both looked good, but I decided to inspect the internals and found one had been inspected by a previous owner. It was marked on a connector and body, I found a scorch mark inside the body and the contacts in poor condition. I borrowed a relay from a friend and tried that today, hey ho fault had gone. I have sourced replacements and waiting to install.
Any further problems will let you know, thanks for your help
