My favorite is "ran when parked".

It's a very early chassis number (58?) and he's had a lot of issues on it over the years (incl new supercharger). It hasn't been driven in a while, but is garaged. Apparently, it's throwing codes, he remembers "reduced engine performance" being one of them. Question is, should I make him an offer for it? Anything above $9K would secure it, but I haven't even looked at Kelly blue book yet. Having just killed myself replacing all the coolant system pipes/hoses/pump etc in my wife's XF, I know what a beech these things are to work on.

He's disabled but is going to get AAA to put a battery in it, I intend to go over there with my OBD scanner and see what's going on once that happens.

It is a gorgeous BRG color and I would really like it, but have no idea if that is a good idea! Please advise!
The low miles are great, but $9k is not a deal IMO unless you know what the problem is with the powertrain.

I would go with "I don't really want it and don't have room for it." I would take it for $6k because of the servicing I know I would do if they all come back and lowball you and don't come through on the $9k. That way you're not making an offer that, while real, he may interpret as insulting, and you're giving him an option when others see the lights and say $3k.

auburn2 and rohejo - wise advice. I've come to the conclusion that I will tell him to get offers, if someone offers him $9K go for it! Otherwise I would be happy to give him $6K for it, if it's the high offer great if not, then good for him. I figure I have up to $3K for all cooling hoses/pipes/pump/reservoir, and the timing chains/tensioners and timing alignment tools and whatever else I find.

Curious about what happened? TV is cuckoo, gotta go back to old threads and find something more interesting to do!

Well, nothing so far. Unfortunately my friend went back into hospital, then a rest home for a few weeks. He's back home now, but I don't want to bother him with any other issues until he feels well enough to talk about it. Also, I'm a bit pi**ed off with Jags at the moment. Having spent some miserable time replacing every hose/pipe/water pump etc on the 2011 XF, it's now making timing chain slapping noises. Ridiculous, the car's done 50k miles and I've had to replace the entire cooling system and now one month later I've got to pull it all apart again. Ugh.....the thought of yet another car requiring similar work (I assume) is not something I'm wanting to rush into! Why can't Jaguar make a car as reliable as a cheap Japanese sedan? Another buddy was telling me his Mazda 626 has done almost 250,000 miles and he's never done anything to the drivetrain....nothing except oil changes.

Bought my 2000 convertible needing work and knowing it will need work on a regular basis. Plan to do all the preventative stuff. My daily car is a Lexus LS430. Bullet proof reliable, fast and invisible. Looking forward to putting some miles on my Jag! Got compliments when it was just sitting in the driveway!
