I bought a 2003 XJ8 for the engine to put in my 2001 XK8. I have a few questions.
1. Since it is a 2003 do I need to do any preventive maintenance before I install the engine? I understand the 2003 had the updated tensioners.
2. Do I need to change any computers from the XJ8 to the XK8?
3. Would it be best to pull both engines and transmissions together. The eng. is bad on the 2001 XK8, the transmission is bad on the XJ8. It looks like it might be easier to mate the engine and transmission out of the car.
4. As long as I have the transmission out of the car should I do any preventive maintenance?
Both the 2001 and 2003 have around 100,000 miles. From what I know the swap should not be a problem. Am I missing anything?

They are both AJ27 engines/gearboxes. There are no ECM/TCM swapping requirements so you can mix & match. All the plugs and harnesses will mate.

The only thing that I can think of that is different is the electrical harness connector mount brackets on the top of the gearboxes. Just swap them.
