They said the belt was off, can't be the water pump or tensioner. Nor the alternator.

If it's pumping out oil surely there would be no oil pressure? Therefore the hydraulic timing chain tensioners wouldn't be taking the slap out of the chains? Whatever it is he shouldn't be running the engine without oil.

good sense would insist that you send a thank you for the youtube and tell them you're not interested. there are too many other nice ones out there to get stuck with that one. UNLESS, you simply need a parts car and price is less than $3k.

Thanks for the info on the cam chain tensioners. That would explain the rattling.
Well I'm not going to buy it, I'm amazed at how noisy the engine was with so low of mileage. If it's an oil pressure problem not pumping up the tensioners it would be worth his while to install a bypass hose on the oil cooler and take a new video, but he said he wasn't going to do any other work on the car to sell the engine "someone who can appreciate this engine for what it is will buy it". If he would spend a few minutes fixing the oil leak and it sounded better I might buy it, but not the way it sounds now!

Do all of the cam chain tensioners work off of oil pressure? I'm am only familiar with motorcycles which use a spring for tension.

That is what gets me with some sellers. "All you need to do it is buy a 40 dollar part to fix it and it will be a great car" ha ha ha then why don't ya fix it then before you sell it. I walk away or dont even go looks at most ALL cars that say this that are for sale.

Top(secondary) tensioners have a spring to keep static tension on the chains, then oil pressure takes over once the engine starts. Bottom(primary) tensioners are pure hydraulic with a non return valve.
