The steering problem is a common issue. Older cars that don't get a lot of column exercise have the lubricant dry out creating a sluggish movement. The position potentiometers get dead spots on them that may stop movement or allow movement past the limits of tilt or reach. Potentiometer issues can cause failure of the 4" drive cable between the motor and the drive mechanism. Tilt cables are easy to replace, reach cables are much more difficult.

I had a dead spot on both tilt and reach. Set the memory 1 and 2 to each side of each dead spot and sat there mashing 1,2,1,2,1,2, . . . until it functioned again. Not a perfect solution and may not permanently fix the issue.

That does help. My dead spots are pretty bad. Sometimes when I remove the key the wheel doesn't go back in but will tilt up. Other times when I put the key into the ignition the wheel will come out and go down a smal movement, then I have to click the control down 4 or 5 times until the wheel is all the way down. It's a huge headache. Is this a serious issue or can it be done as a DIY project? Thanks, Dan
