2003 XK8 Front Brake Pads
Anything to watch out for when replacing front brake pads on 2003 XK8?
Up until now I was under warranty and not allowed to touch it.
Time to get dirty.
Any how to" you tubes" tucked away in a sticky here?

Sorry mate ...
if you really need youtube-how-to-video for changing brake parts ... better look after some friend, who really knows how to handle, repair, change brake parts.
Your life can depend on your brakes ... so take that serious
except that, you need some tools for the calipers moving them back ...

Actually, I always try to watch any available videos about most any job I'm doing. Maybe I already know how to do something, but maybe I can pick up a trick or two from someone else. Front pads, while super important for safety, also happen to be one of the easiest jobs on any car. But if it's your first time doing it (everyone has a first time) watching a good video on the subject is a great way to learn how to do it best and do it safely.
Steven,
These are the Reverend Sam DIY videos. Must viewing for any XK owner who does his own maintenance.

Thanks Stamford,
I have great respect for the reverend, didn't see a video on the subject. H20 boy posted some nice pics on an XKR brake string, looks like nothing unusual. I too try to gain as much information first. Having done brake jobs for over forty years, youngest inspector hired by CA Bureau of Automotive repair, etc. For those young whippersnappers out there who don't ask questions, try lining up three shoe front brakes on an Alfa Romeo on instinct alone. You wont make it past the left hand threads on the lug nuts. Nicer to know about the tab to release the spring clip than to break it in moment of macho.
Best Regards,
Steven

The standard brakes are just a typical brake job. If you've successfully done brake pads before, you'll have no trouble with this one....

Waiting on front wheel bearings (there has been a persistent squeal for too long for it to have been a warning spring). Seems to come and go with hard cornering.
It may be brake calipers not centering themselves properly. Found them cheap enough to give it a shot.

I agree. Videos are great today. I started out as a tech ( mechanic) back in the 70's. The business turned to test lights then onto volt ohm meters, onto computers.
Nothing like a bone up on a mechanical procedure with a video. Always great to see any potential road blocks on any vehicle. Tell me if I 'am lying. This car has a few strange quirks. Rich
