Default 2003 Xk8 Gearbox fault

I am experiencing a complete gearbox failure on a 2003 xk8 with 123k miles.

The shifter will not allow me to place it in Drive.

There is no movement on Reverse.

There seems to be no connection between engine and box. Could this be a Torque converter failure?

Will be checking fluid level tomorrow. What else to look for?

Thanks

Not sure if the Forum has a copy of this document on the ZF6HP.

Have you checked the two small bolts that connect the shift linkage under the car and sometimes fall out? Hopefully it is a simple thing.

I will take a look tomorrow Norri. Thank you.
It still doesn't explain why the shifter in the car won't gopast N into Drive. Its very odd.
I recall someone saying something about spilled coffee sticking the mechanism on the side of the shifter. If that's it, great, as I have a couple of spares.

This is the same transmission as my wife's BMW E90 so i have some experience in changing fluids and filter. And I have some left over Mercon SP.

Well, it did not turn out good. the plastic pan was cracked. no fluids in transmission.

The valve body and selenoids looked good and clean of debris. Did not smell of burned bands. Replaced with a new pan and fluids. Followed the refill procedure. 7 quarts Mercon SP.

Gearbox fault still present. no check engine light. Borrowed an Autell MAXI code reader, what a fantastic gizmo, you can look at each module individually and read all the parameters off each in real time,

TCM Codes present
p0736
p0730

Tried to erase them several times but they come back.
Lights at the shifter flash in all positions.
Vehicle starts and revs normaly. Can't feel the TC engaging.
There is a tin can rattle coming from the TC area.
Tomorrow I am going to pull the valve body and check it and the selenoids closely.
This is uncharted territory for me.

Any ideas? Suggestions? before having to pull the transmission.
