Default 2003 XK8 thermostat housing endcap(?) disappeared

Hi, Pulled into work Wednesday, the low coolant warning comes on and coolant is just pouring out onto the ground. Finally figured that a piece of the thermostat housing is missing - see attached photo. It took me a while to find a photo of this end of the housing - looks like there is supposed to be a cap. I searched in this forum and couldn't see anyone else where this happened. Consider myself lucky that this must have happened right then, and the engine didn't overheat disastrously.

Car has 65K miles. I'm assuming that the only way to fix this is to replace the housing. Anyone think differently?

Is this your vehicle or a photo of one you believe to be the same?

The one in my signature? Yes, that's mine. I swapped in an XKR hood if that is what the question is.

Wasn't sure. Yes, that's my thermostat housing. It appears that there was a cap glued in at the end of the tube in the photo.

Howdy neighbor!

There is a "plug" that belongs in that hole, so you will need to replace the thermostat housing.

Fortunately it looks like it is a two piece part and may not be too difficult to replace. At least the coolant is already drained...

Let me know if you need a hand, I am over by Target and the 405.
