I have a drivers side door that has the lower hinge area with torn metal, causing the door to hang. No idea how it happened but I guess it was from the weight of the door or someone hanging on the door. Has any one else experienced this problem and what is the fix, other than replacing the door?

I have not had this issue on the Jaguar but I have repaired this area on American made cars several times by welding the cracked area, It was not a big job on those cars but they didn't have the electronics that these cars have. If someone is careful they should be able to remove the door, weld it, maybe even reinforce it, and spot paint it without damaging the exterior paint finish. My XKR is a 2000 model, I'll look to see how the door comes off. Any decent body shop should be able to do this for a reasonable price, depending on how picky you are about the paint finish of your door jambs. They should know to be very careful not to chip the paint while removing the door and replacing the door, and to protect it while welding it. Jim

Thanks for the reply, I have removed the door and welded the damaged area and reinforced, reinstalled it and now in the process of re-aligning it. I should have re-enforced it in the inside of the hinge area but got in a hurry and did it on the outside, so now have to shim the top hinge area and re-align for correct gaps around the door. Not realy a big job but it is time consuming, again thanks for the reply.

 

When I had a similar issue on my X308, I got my friendly local Jaguar breaker to chop the front three inches off a good door:



I was able to cut it down making a perfect repair patch from it.

Perhaps not a solution available to all.

So just the weight of these Jaguar doors is enough to cause the metal jambs to bend and crack as time goes by? I certainly understand this result if folks are leaning down and putting their body weight on their open doors or even leaving their doors fully open for hours or days at a time, but I would think that relatively careful normal use would not cause this issue even after quite a few years....
