That's the way to look at it, Marc. It was a good price, but for what? I hope you still get an XK8 or R. They are great cars and there are still bargains to be found. Good luck. Hope to see you announce you found one real soon.

Stamford

I was not looking specifically for a jag. I was trying to be an opportunistic SOB and satisfy my craving to work on something other than R/C sailboats...

everyone has to have at least half a dozen projects going on at the same time...Right?

what makes the 2004 -2006 the better choice?
I am interested in an 06 in Baltimore with 76k miles and an ask o $11000.
I am in Nj and hope to get down there this weekend for a look see.

Got the bug for an XK. Prices seem to be all over the place. the Md car is at
a dealer and no service records. waiting for a carfax.

Everyone will tell you not to buy an XK8 without service records, and it's good advice (which I didn't follow). Also found mine in Maryland, a 2000 XK8 with 58,000 miles, located on the Eastern Shore. The owner seemed to be straight up, but there were very few records available. I took a deep breath, and drove it back to PA that night. After researching all of the more common problems with that year, I drove the car to a very good indie Jag mechanic, gave him a list of things to check and change, and wrote a large check. Probably not the right way to do it, but I got lucky and the car has been great!

Wish you the best of luck with whatever Jag you end up buying.

4.2L engine and, as is the case with any Jag model, the late production years tend to be the most improved.

2006 with 76k miles with an asking price of $11,000 from a dealer??
Expect major issues.

$11,000 is very low for a 2006. BUT, depending on what the car needs, your savings might be enough to fix any issues. Go into it with your eyes wide open. Don't be swayed by he car's sensuous lines. Look for the warts or have a qualified indy do it for you. At the very least, the dealer should make a Carfax available. Good luck.
