Default 2012 California Registration fees

Hi all, my registration information came in the mail and it's 69 to register and 86 license fee and a 10 district fee=$165.

I've read that the license fee is based on what the state thinks your car is worth, roughly 1.1% of the value. So based on this the state thinks my 01 XK8 is worth about 7800$, is that correct?

I'm glad if that's what they think as it's a bit more than half what I paid for it.

As a side note I didn't notice for 2 months after I bought the car that it has a custom license plate number. I was worried I'd have to pay for that but gladly there is no specialty plate fee listed.

Oh I guess it went back down to 0.65%(0.0065) the value of the car so their value is $13230, sounds about right after depreciation from when I bought it.

Government con artists all of them. They'll figure out new ways to rip you off , given enough time.

Variable registration fees?

Sounds like a cool idea. The deeper the pocket, the higher the fee.

In California, the registration is directly linked to how much you paid for the vehicle.

Yeah I know that's why I mentioned it, it's 0.65% of the value, I'm not sure if it's what you paid just what the state of California thinks it's worth. There's a difference there.

I think other states do that? I know California does a lot of underhanded things to bolster their union government employees votes.
