#3 cylinder Id. FAQ
Got restricted performance. Codes pulled, #3 cylinder Coil fail. #3 Cylinder misfire.
I have JTIS CD and can do this work without issues, but as simple as this seems, I can only find a diagram bank A and Bank B. and the firing order. Am I to assume cylinder 3 is the 3rd to fire in the order (bank A #4 closest to the firewall on the passenger side USA).
If someone can post a cylinder number chart it would be most helpful.
1999 Xk8 78,000 miles.
codes are as follows: P0353, P0303
Thanks.

I know, Jaguar is real flexible with the cylinder numbering. When they refer to #3 that translates to A2.
1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8
A1 B1 A2 B2 A3 B3 A4 B4
That's how Ford/GM always numbered their cylinders. I think I saw such a chart in JTIS at one time but not today. It is probably hidden in one specific year.

Actually, These 2 diagrams show the same firing order. I assume that a Code referring to "Cylinder #3" would mean #3 on the MY 2002.5 up Diagram above.

#3 cylinder coil replaced as shown in the diagram supplied by Paul. Codes cleared, car back to running like a top.
Another note of intrest to USA forum readers, I purchased the coil from AutoZone, turns out thier coils are OEM. $107 The dealer part was $135
Thanks again

When you took the COP out, was there a rust residue on the rubber boot?
Water would roll from the ignition buss lines to the rear of my COP cover.
It seems to short the COP and cause a Misfire on Cylinder 3 of a V6, and cylinder 4 of a V8. The engine hot seems to evaporate the water in time, but will leave a rust residue.I like to use a silicone sealent around the buss line going into the COP cover.
