Default 5.2 Parameters?

Had a chance to drive the XKR yesterday for about 3 hours. For the first time since I have owned the car (only about
three months) I used the J Gate to manually move through the gears just for fun and found I rather liked it.

This got me thinking about the XKR claim of 5.2 seconds 0-60 mph. My best is 6.2 in automatic Sport mode.
Does anyone know if these times were achieved by shifting the trans manually? Is there a list somewhere of the parameters they used to get these times?

Thanks

I'm not sure with this specific car, but car journalists will openly admit that manufacturer claims about 0-60 times and even magazine results involve treating the car so disposably that no real-world owner would ever do to their car the things required to replicate the reported 0-60 time. One of the many reasons not to buy a former press car.

Back of the napkin, though, my guess is that they probably kept it in Automatic Sport mode. And had some extremely favorable conditions.

If you don't mind putting a lot of stress on your trans, differential, and brakes, what you do is: Stomp on the brakes, put car in sport mode, turn off DSC, press gas pedal to about 2 or 3k rpm, release the brake pedal and mash the gas pedal. You will get close to the 5.2 second 0-60, but is it worth it?

I use OBD Fusion and my first and only attempt so far at 0 to 60 was in auto with sport mode on and dsc on.

It recorded 5.18 seconds, it wasnt the best road to try it on (a small hump in it)
Next time 3rd gear and a better road will get this time down.

No it is not. But it is a way to verify everything is working on the car. I have not been able to verify the intercooler
pump is working (I have read you can hear it but I hear lots of bells and beeps and pumps and clacking every time on turn the
key to the second position. Not sure which is the intercooler pump). Also have not had time yet verify the SC bypass valve
is working. I am assuming something is not quite right until I check it all out.

Also great idea to turn off the DSC. Forgot about that.

Thats what I am hoping for. Part of my problem might be that I am timing manually with a digital stopwatch.
Primitive by todays standards.

You are using the Fusion app what OBD plug in are you linking it with?

Im using the Obd Link MX bluetooth.
I tried the cheap one's but not very good.

Been using it for about 3 to 4 year's now and it's a really good bit of kit.
Only down side is the bluetooth connection some times disconnect's, this could be my android phone's fault.

Iv just looked on Scantool.net and they also have a new Obd MX+ professional.
Now thinking of upgrading ......

Supposed to be by the air box, mounted on the passenger side inner fender.

I attained 13.66 sec 1/4 mile out of my X308 XJR.
This corresponds to a bit faster than 5.1 second to 60 mph

As stock the car was always quoted as being about 13.8-13.9 seconds 1/4 mile and 0-60 mph in 5.3.

Its much heavier than the X100 and the torque is less.

The only mods are the 15HU and torsen LSD/diff, Mina gallery intake tube, X100 XKR 4.2 air box adapted to X308 intake, AMG blue top shift solenoids.

I would guestimate the power as being about the 400 bhp mark (may be slightly shy) and similar 525 Nm of torque to standard.

Your 4.2 litre XKR should be faster, due to more torque and it being lighter.

I had to drive the car hard to attain these figures and it was the results of several tries.

This is why I spent several thousand on reinforcing the rear differential.

I was having a crack at this the other day, on a great road and perfect conditions I was getting 5.9, BUT that was with DSC on (auto & sport). Although, I was measuring it with a cheap app (FastR).

The thing I was wondering was: what would happen if I sat in neutral, built up the revs (say 3k?) and then put it in drive? I assume that would have the same effect as just holding it on the break?

I don't think you want to be doing anything out of the ordinary to your car, when you are trying it's 0 to 60 time.
Not a good idea at all.

Just put it in sport mode and hit the throttle hard, That's all it should take.

Depending where you read the 0.60 time for the 4.0l / 4.2l XKR it's either 4.8 sec or 5.2 sec.

Have you verified that the car's speed as reported by OBD is accurate? You need to make sure that is correct first before using an OBD app to calculate 0-60 time.

Good point...
Went out to day to check this, And the obd app speed was about 10mph out to the car's speedometer reading, So went in to the settings and changed the vehicle speed scale factor, Had to do this a few times to get it dialed in right,
Verified the calibration using the cruse control at different speeds on main road (70 mph road).

So off i went to try the 0-60 time out with the correct speed calibration.

Result was................0-60 = 4.44 sec.........0-100 = 9.77 sec ...........1/4 mile = 12.26 sec at 112.6 mph...........
Well dont know how accurate this app is but that was the result's.

Only up grade to the XKR that i know of is a cat back stainless steel sports exhaust fitted by elite+performance jag's of derby,
They clam it can add up to an extra 25 bhp.
And two new fuel pumps + new maf just fitted recently.......guess bhp at fly wheel about 390.

If that 0-60 time is accurate, then that is really impressive. I wonder if the times were underrated by Jaguar?

I always thought the XKR felt more like a 4 second car than a 5 second car.

How fast are we talking about? Apart from your 4.4 seconds, the fastest I've seen quoted for a stock XKR is 4.8 seconds.

Could be anything. Does your car struggle to keep traction at launch or not at all? My car will peel the tires if launched properly. If I forget to turn off DSC, traction control will intervene on my car when accelerating hard from a stop. Do you ever feel your car bog down? Have you tried reading the 0-60 via OBD-II instead of a stopwatch? Are you sure you have no intake leaks, your fuel pumps are working fine, your MAFS is working as it should, and there are no problems with your drivetrain and engine at all?

I read somewhere on the forums that Jaguar allowed a 5 - 10 % (if I recall correctly) discrepancy between the claimed power and torque figures and what each engine actually produced. You could have lucked out...
