Thank you indeed! I was not offended at all, I only though I had offended YOU by being unclear and thereby wasting your time! I have been coming to this site for many years but mostly as a passive reader, not contributor. The collective experience of the group has been a huge help because it is broad and honest. And while I have worked on my own cars since 1956, which started with a 1929 Model A—which I still have as its only SECOND owner!) I readily admit that there is a huge difference between model As and SAAB strokers and a Jaguar automatic. Freely admitting my ignorance at the top is not a sure way of preventing disasters but it is a necessary one. I also know the dangers of sentimentalizing mere machinery. Putting in a rebuilt $7000 unit is obviously dumb, but using a $360 kit and with the supervising help of a master mechanic who uses my garage mostly free is another thing. Besides at 77, something that might last only another 8 years will still probably outlast me!

jfhuntsman - $7000 for a rebuilt is steep. Check with Ericksson as I posted above. The last time I spoke with them a rebuilt unit from them was roughly $2300 plus 700 core plus shipping which for me was about $400.

I know my first trans rebuild was $3572 and the second after the torque converter ate itself was around $4500

I am installing the Transgo upgrade. My problem is with the O-rings. What are scarf cut O-rings? Are the cut{scarf) O-rings the ones that will be left on to go into the valve body? Arre the sizing rings the ones tha are not cut?
