Will a transmission from a 98 XK8 (or XJ8) work in a 97 XK8???

The wiring diagrams from the electrical guides seem to be identical.....

Does anyone know for sure??

A 98MY XK8 transmission will definitely fit a 97MY XK8 ,
not sure about an XJ8 though ,

ALL 5HP24 gearboxes will work in ALL 4.0 V8 XJ/XK cars!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You just need to use the rotary switches on the selector shaft because the part numbers are different and I don't know if they will exchange!!!! (I have not tried that)

The internal harnesses have different part numbers but it does NOT make a difference as I have installed a late gearbox in an early car and the other way around!!!
