98 UK XK8: door side impact/ intrusion bars??
Hi All,
Newbie to the forum here.
I have imported my "98 XK8 into Australia from the UK. Yep, it was worth it! Anyway, to pass the local inspection(s), the car will need side impact/ intrusion bars to be present in the doors. I have googled this and all I can find is the side impact air bags. Can anybody verify, yes or no, if this model actually has side impact bars inside the doors?
Thanks.

Welcome to the forums Wolvesboy,
I've checked JTIS (Jaguar Technical Information System - the Workshop Manual) and JEPC (Jaguar Electronic Parts Catalogue) and there is nothing to absolutely confirm door intrusion bars. The only documentary evidence I could find is in The Cat is Back (Product Training for the Jaguar Technican) on page 2.27:
To help meet structural targets the XK8 body structure contains approximately 15% high strength steel of various grades. Areas in which high strengh steels are used include the front longitudinals, seat belt anchorages, suspension mounting points, bumper mountings and door intrusion beams.
It may also be mentioned in advertising brochures but these tend to have more marketing hype than technical accuracy.

You could grab a trim puller set from supercheap and carefully pop a few door trim clips, just enough so you can pull the trim away enough to see into the cavity (there's probably a how-to somewhere on removing the trim which will tell you where the clips are).. or you might find a how-to video, vlog, forum post, or something else from someone who has sound-deadened their doors and, if you're lucky, there might be a shot of the inside of the door.
Remembering when I took my door apart to replace the microswitch in the door lock I am pretty sure there are strengthening bars in the door cavity considering it was such a pain in the *** to take the damn door lock out. If you look on YouTube there are some videos to see that migth show the strut.
I assumed in my reply #2 that you needed to PROVE the original design and construction included intrusion bars in the doors and consequently I looked for documented evidence from Jaguar. If you only need to DEMONSTRATE the vehicle has them then they are visible with the door card removed.

When I was at Peugeot in Ryton in the 80s all the cars for Canada had side impact bars which the UK did not.
I would say if in the year your car was imported AU cars needed side impact bars in AU then the Jag cars imported would have had them......Maybe all had them as most went to the US
