98 XJR gearox sport mode query
Greetings,
I've just purchased myself a '98 XJR. I think this uses the same box as the XKR
When I put my foot down, the gearbox doesn't seem to kick down like it used to on an old BMW 525 I used to own. It will kick down maybe once... Taking the revs from 1.5k to about 2.5k.
There is an'S' (sport?) button near the shifter. When depressed the light is off, and when raised the light is on. Neither position seems to have much affect on the gearchanges or rpm as I've seen on other cars.
Can anyone explain the complexities of the electronicickery going on here, and what I can expect to see from the 'box in terms of normal behaviour in 'S' and non-'S' modesplease?
Thanks
Tim

just increase pressure for shifting. and on your mercedes box it changes the reverse gear ratio in reverse.. awesome going backwards when stuck in snow.. and i thought that light off button is raised.. and light on button is down.
Congratulations! . . . and welcome to the forum.
Up with the light on is Sport mode. It raises the shift points about 400 rpms. I have noticed the same lack of throttle downshift but there is a switch at the end of the pedal travel that will light off the JATO's when pressed. There is always the shifter.
