I totally agree with you astromorg, the plan is to put back the old clock spring and track down the real ground problem, I suspect it's in the light switch unit. I don't think that will get rid of the air bag light though as it is a no known code. I will tackle this in the next few weeks and when I have an answer I will post a thread. Looks to be driver side airbag circuit fault.
