Default ABS Light

I disconnected the rear ABS sensors prior to removing the rear calipers so that the brake hoses did not apply any pressure to the ABS cables. This was to clean up the handbrake operation which was successful. Now the ABS light is on. My simple OBD tool does not show any ABS codes so I checked resistances of the sensors which were identical (possibly 1.007k from memory). Before I go tracing cable runs to find sockets to disconnect so I can check cable continuity, is it possible that running the car on road will turn off the light if there is no longer a fault. Problem is the car needs an MOT.
The light was not on before I started work, and I think I turned the ignition on while the sensors were disconnected.
Any advise will be much appreciated.
PS I have borrowed a Snap-On Ethos tester but it is so complex that I think its operation may defeat me.

The ABS (A) light only goes off when the car is moved a bit (as in a few feet). If it does not, double check the harness and rubber boot.

Best of luck, keep us posted.

Lady Penelope has posted that there is a 12.5 MPH threshold.

Since you did not have an ABS problem before the repairs to the brake assembly I would first remove the sensors and clean the faces. Never know if just handling them they became contaminated. Next I would spray liberally through the opening WD-40 and rotate the wheels while spraying. Then blow out through the opening with compressed air.
It is possible that by removing you may have dislodged debris that is interfering with the signal between the reluctor ring and the sensor.

As Dr.D pointed out, the car has to be driven to clear the abs light. If it doesn't clear after a couple of hundred feet look for a problem.

Thank you to all who responded. You were right, all I had to do was drive the car to turn the light off. I did not do this before as it had no MOT or tax. In fact our 70ft long driveway was sufficient to attain the necessary speed with firm acceleration without the need to risk road use. An MOT is now booked for Thursday. Wish I'd asked the forum earlier for advice, it would have saved me a certain amount of work and worry. I thought I was going to have to use a garage/specialist for the first time ever in over 60 years of motoring. I know that there are good garages out there, but there are an awful lot of bad ones as well.
Thank you to all again.
Alan
