Default ABS light on,trac not avail. after work done.

Hello,
just had front upper wishbone bushes and rear shock bushes fitted by a local garage.Picked the car up(2001 xkr convertible) and now have ABS light on and trac. control not available on the dash.I`ll be attempting to remedy the fault and first thoughts are that the mechanic has disturbed a wire or connector.
I`m hoping for some pointers as to where to look first or perhaps someone has done similar work on their own car, ended up with the ABS light on and realised a simple remedy.
The car will not be going back to the garage.

Any advice welcome.

He will have disconnected the sensors to do the work. Check the wheel speed sensors (see Reverend Sam's video this forum on removing and cleaning) are connected and the harnesses aren't damaged.

However, if they've had the doors etc open, the battery may be a bit down. XK8's are very sensitive to even a slightly discharged battery.

If it persists after checking the above, have the codes read.

Many thanks for your reply Sir,am feeling better already.

On the point of perhaps the battery draining whilst the work was done then when might i expect the light to go off if this was the culprit? I have to say it was my eternal optimism hoping this may be the reason as soon as i saw the light but after a drive home (4 miles) and 2 restarts since, the light is still there.I`ll put the optimiser on the battery tonight.

Including the two restarts that's not really sufficient running to charge it up especially if they've been enjoying your sound system as they worked.

If a trickle charge overnight doesn't resolve it, the next thing is to check the wheel sensors.

The harness to the front ones should be clipped to the upper wishbone (though not necessarily with as colourful zip ties as I have).

Found the culprit after checking everything and its a wire snapped in two right where the lead connects to the speed sensor on a front wheel and as it enters the hard plastic surround on the plug end so i`m sourcing another as it looks unrepairable without hacking into the hard plastic and attempting a bodge.

Many thanks for all advice.

Good news you've found the fault and it's a straightforward repair.

You're in York? Try Eurojag in Darlington for a sensor lead. They were breaking three XK8's when I was down there earlier this month.

In post #5 the OP clearly states that it was a broken wire. Did you miss it?
