Ok so I removed my drivers side front wheel and every suspension component. I was able to remove the abs ring, and press out old hub and bearing. I messed up and bent the spindle/knuckle/vertical link at one of the brake caliper bracket mounting holes slightly, I’m new at using my 20 ton press. No big deal I got a whole spindle and hub off eBay. I took the new one all apart and found on the rear of the abs ring on my replacement unit a plastic ring that didn’t exist on my original. My original is a 97 xk8 coupe vin 001363. My replacement as far as I’ve been told was from 98 xk8 vin 023339. I’ve attached pic to show the plastic ring. Is it missing from car? Does it matter? I got a lot more of these weird questions to come regarding suspension stuff but one at a time. Thanks
old is on right, other is on left with some sort of plastic ring. Please advise
I can't remember there being a plastic ring on mine but it's many years ago since I took it apart. Do you have the spring pin which engages with the rotor slot to stop it coming loose, although that seems extremely unlikely given the torque. Are the tabs on the plastic ring something to do with the spring pin? Is that actually the spring pin?
The plastic ring is a 'grease thrower/deflector ring' (part # MJA1846AA). It was added (I think) around 1998, although it may have been deleted again later. It doesn't list in JEPC post-99.
Perfect guys/gus!!!! Thanks so much, that’s exactly the info I needed. I’ll post soon on some other issues I’ve found with dismantling the suspension. Thanks again!!
