Adjusting Idle RPM
My 98 XK8 has an idle speed in the mid 500 range when in gear stopped at an intersection.
My oil pressure gauge flickers and occasionally will drop so the Low Oil Pressure Light comes on. When it does, just putting my foot on the gas pedal
very lightly is enough to make things return to normal
I would like to get my RPM up just a tad so this doesn't happen. 600 RPM or close to it.
I know that adjusting the cable and the throttle body set screw are not the correct way, and the ECM will adjust it back to where it is anyway.
Does anyone know how idle speed can be adjusted on a 98 XK8?
Thanks!

Unfortunately you posted to the wrong forum. This forum is for 2007-2015 XKs and XKRs. The correct forum for you as XK8 & XKR. But, take heart you have a real oil pressure gauge; we don't. Good luck
A moderator is going to yell at you because you accidentally posted on the XK/XKR forum (X150) instead of the XK8/XKR forum (X100). The moderator will also move it to the proper forum, so no need to fret.
.... beat me by eight seconds...
I'll answer your question and one of the moderators I am sure will be kind enough to move this to the correct section.
The idle is not adjustable on these cars.
The most common cause for low oil pressure in the early XK8s while running is the sump screen in the oil pan getting partially blocked by small bits of plastic debris from broken chain tensioners and chain guides. The oil pan needs to be dropped and the sump need to be inspected and cleaned.
Other causes could be a bad low oil pressure switch or an actual problem with the oil pump, but they are less likely.
Note to the jealous X150 owners
...the oil pressure gauge on this car is a placebo...it just registers low pressure or center scale. Your car has the same low pressure sensor and just generates a low pressure warning. The gauge is nice looking though!

I do miss the gauges even if they were just over glorified idiot lights.
+1 to plastic in sump screen as you have the 4.0L and early plastic tensioners which I am all to familiar with. I changed mine to 3rd gen after reading posts. And yes mine were broken but caught before damage was done.

I already knew that, I have both an XK8 and an XKR (x150). Anyone want to buy a really nice XK8???
