Default are aftermarket service manuals available for 2003 xk8?

Greetings to all,

Doeas anyone know if ther are there any resources available for service manuals for a 2003 xk8 coupe? Possibly at a "Haynes" level. Full shop manual on DVD covering all jags seems to run about $1,000 from dealer.

The car is near perfect, I would rather find one now than when I need one and need to make sure I keep up on maintenece issues.

Regards to All,
Steven (1avguy)

Have you tried ebay motors? I was able to get some books for my 1995 XJS in that way.

The JTIS CD covers through '03 and is available on ebay for less than $20. That was the official Jaguar dealer shop manual until they went online. I think I paid less than $10 for mine including shipping.

Default Aftermarket books for 2003 xk8

Test Point,

Thanks for the referral, do you know if this covers the 4.2L engine?

Looked it up on mine and, yes, the 2003 MY refers to 4.2L. That probably means that you need to ensure that you get the latest and last issue, number 21, of the CD. My CD says Jaguar Part # 154-265-2W21-9.

I see that there are several stating 'latest' for $5.99 with free shipping on eBay at this time. Can't beat that. Note that they say for XP but not Vista. Mine runs on 32 bit Vista just fine.

This is the first car I have owned where it was not possible/affordable to get a hard copy service manual either from the dealer or an aftermarket type publisher such as Haynes or Chilton. I wonder why?

If every joe-schmo could get there hands on printed manuals, dealer service would dwindle. They can't have that.

I don't know about that. I just seem to recall in the "old" days of buying cars, that getting a service manual was almost encouraged by the manufacturer as the owner's manual frequently included a page where you could order the service manual. I did so for the first car I bought (1970 Roadrunner) and I recall the manual was pretty affordable at the time (maybe about $35?). I bought the manuals for my 1995 Corvette and then for my wife's 2000 Acura TL (the Acura one might have been $100 or so).

I like to have the manuals not so much that I intend on doing all of the service on my car but, rather, in case I want to try and fix "little" things or I want to be more informed when bringing the car in for servicing at a shop.

I really prefer the CD/DVD based manuals even the JTIS is a little difficult to learn the navigation.

I pulled the electrical and DTC charts out and stored them as separate .pdf files. That makes it quicker finding stuff and easier to print out the pages. The drawings in the JTIS repair files are still beyond me to print even though some have mastered it. HarleyD was a master at it.

If anyone has a procedure to print the drawings please let us know how.
