Default Air Filter Question

Hi everyone I was doing a yearly maintenance and this time I also decided to change the air filter. It somehow never occurred to me that this is likely not original, am I right?
It looks like some weird K&N clone? As I expect I will have zero chance to find original airbox for my darling to revert her to stock, does anyone have idea what filter it is and if it needs some oil or anything?
It has 9.000km and 3 years since it was put in there.

TIA

It is.
Definitely not stock, and drawing in hot air from the engine bay

I'd try to source an original airbox - breaker?

Definitely do not oil it, otherwise you risk gummimg up the MAF.

Perhaps there is a complete Air Cleaner assembly (Box & Horn) on E Bay. Look and try that. Also a LKQ from a recognized salvage dealer is another avenue. Good Luck

I'm not sure if they're different between the 8 and the R.
What year is the car & I'll check the parts catalogue.

The XK8, XKR, XJ8, XJR all have different part numbers but the 4.0 filter box bases all look the same to me?
The AJ26 and AJ27 tops might be different because of the style of MAFS but I never paid attention.

The X100 4.2 SC are different with the EXTRA AIR flap/duct and solenoid arrangement.

I have six X308 sedans and three X100 convertibles but never tried to mix/match air filter housings
I did replace one of my filter box tops on one of my 2000MY XKRs because the sun faded the plastic through the bonnet louvers.
I used a filter housing top from one of my X308 parts cars as they are both AJ27. (1999 XJ8 sedan)

I really never noticed any physical differences.

thank you for the insights, that might help to locate it. I would not mind if it is a bit different, would need to move screw here and there or an adapter hose, I just want that crap out. I drive a lot and am scared it sucks too much dust here.

LHD or RHD will make no difference.

I would try autoreserve in the UK - I'm sure they will have one and can ship it to you. You will also find a few XK8s being broken in peninsular Spain, so you might well get lucky, but it may still be cheaper to buy from the UK and pay any import taxes.

By the way, I have the same car, so if you want a photo of the original airbox, let me know.

To my knowledge, the XK8 and XKR air boxes are different. For the XKR, there is an extra actuator that opens a flap allowing more air in under boost. The XKR also has that intercooler water pump in the same general area so an XK8 box might not fit.

Best of luck, keep us posted.

i would really love that, if you find time, thank you! Found few on the internet and drawings, but actual shot of the full installation would help to make sure I get all parts or can compare with what is being offered to me. Many reached to me but so far mainly for 4.2 or Xk8 or X150 etc.

I know it is a small and relatively mundane thing, but my Zoe is close to perfect and I want to spoil her. Besides I am afraid that she sucks too much dust this way. I live in almost sahara like environment and even stock petrol cars die here quickly.

Thanks - that's likely what rang the bell.

The EPC shows the same part # for the complete unit (NJC3500AA) through until the 4.2L for the 'R.

From my 2003 X100 update training guide.

The Supercharged AJ33 and AJ34 were fitted with the Auxiliary Air Control Flap in the filter housing.(2003MY onward)

The 4.0 engine did not have this feature.

The Auxiliary Air Control Flap was NOT offered/equipped on any Jaguar prior to the introduction of the SuperCharged X103 (4.2 liter coupe/conv) or S-Type X202.(2003MY onward)

The 4.0 liter X100 never had any Auxiliary Air Control Flap in the filter housing.
The X308 SC sedan NEVER had it either.

Any plain air box that fits your car will be just fine.

Here's a photo of mine, showing the air intake pipe at the bottom.

The numbers moulded into the air box are:

46 130 85 908
