I know this was a common problem on the pre-2003 XK8/XKR's, but I now have a hole on my 2004 Air Intake Pipe. Looks like this is approximately $233 retail / $175 discounted part new. I noticed it today while installing 2 new rubber grommets under the air filter box. This hole was not here 4 months ago when I installed the Bosch intercooler pump.

1. Anyone know of an easy fix for this?
2. What is the point of the funky shaped air baffles on this thing (reduced turbulence, speed airflow, grab handle, confuse the masses, etc)?
3. Any aftermarket sources that may be superior near same price (K&N, etc)?

Incidentally, this hole has not caused any CEL codes. Now at 122,750 miles.

 

They are 'tuned resonators to reduce intake air noise levels'.
