Default Air vent...

Hello everyone, your help would be much appreciated.

I am basically trying to reposition the little plastic trims (I don't know the exact name of that little plastic part) in the air vent. That trim allows to channel the air to the right or to the left, a pretty important feature.

I took the air vent off the dash, thinking that getting to them from behind would make my life easier. Hum...not really. These little trims are so delicate to put back in place.

It looks like the air vent can be broken out into two pieces but that's a very tight fit and I am really concerned to break the plastic or make a big crack into it.

Any clues about how to reposition these little trims inside the air vent ? It drives me nuts, such a basic thing... Thanks !

I used a pair of long-nosed tweezers and a really skinny screwdriver to reposition mine. I did not take them out of the dash. The screwdriver was just to hold one side while I positioned the piece.

IT took lots of patience, but I was able to put them in place without too much drama.

yep, a lot of patience is required...after 30mn I managed to fit them back from behind with my fingers and a tiny screwdriver.

Basically the reason why they got loose in the first place was an attempt to install an phone holder into the air vents. Bad idea.

Having had to carry out this repair a few times I now mount my phone via a small piece of velcro under the clock. https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...s-56937/page4/
But usually only when I use it as a satnav.

Just as an observer,
Grahams point is spot on and it does not detract from the detailing, decor and style of the car as well, very nice too, may I add!
