Hi guys, thinking to replace my car alarm sensor on my 2001 xk8 as mine is way to sensitive in heavy rain or hailstones, I believe it's called a inclination tilt alarm sensor, does anyone no were this is situated ,thanks
The inclination sensor measures only that and is usually a trouble free sensor unless you jack the car up without unlocking it first! It's on the righthand side of the trunk, behind the lining, near the radio aerial motor.
The sensor that is susceptible to be set off by heavy rain or hail is the glass breaking sensor mounted in the overhead console. If it's too sensitive for you it can be disabled with a dealer level scanner, leaving the rest of the system to safeguard your car, or it may be that its sensitivity can be reduced, but the only evidence I've seen for that is anecdotal rather than certain.
IIRC the glass breakage sensor works by sound waves and not ultrasonics.
sometimes heavy rain on the windscreen matches the frequency of glass breaking, and triggers the alarm.
easy way is to stick some foam tape over the mic head and muffle the sound.
did this years ago, and not had a false alarm since.
