Default Fun! Alarm goes off when setting the alarm

'02 model. When I Lock the doors using the key fob, the alarm starts sounding off. Anyone else run into this issue? Battery getting low on the fob? Insights welcome.

Only time I have ever had this happen is when I was working on something inside the door and had hung the window switch over the door handle to keep it out of the way. This prevented the door handle from retracting into the lock position and the alarm would go off immediately.

Watch you door handles and see if they are pulling in as they should. If one of them doesn’t then maybe there is a problem with the mechanism or the linkage is bound up.

My alarm would sound when I attempted to arm it with the key fob, but would work correctly when I armed it by locking the car with the key. I reprogrammed the key fob to the car and it fixed it.

I agree with Charlie, though. If we had a little more information with how the locks are behaving it may help in pinpointing the issue.

Same thing has happened to me a few times on my 2005. I get out of the car and set the alarm and a second later the alarm goes off. I hit the disarm and then re-arm and everything is fine.

I think it is just one of those weird quirks that happen with these vehicles.

Spray the door latch with WD40 and work the door open and closed then let it sit for about 30min. Then work the door again and see if the problem clears. The door latch is often forgotten and gets a little sluggish. It also has micro switches that are not resetting properly.
