Default Alarm problem

My car hasn't been used during the summer so it put itself into hibernation mode where you have to unlock the car with a key and then deactivate the alarm with the remote.
My problem is that the car isn't responding to the remote and when I open a door I get the alarm pending chime followed by four blasts on the horn/sounder. Also the boot won't unlock on the button, or remote, only the key through the badge which trips the alarm again. Even stranger is that after a drive of about 70 miles everything works OK, until the next day when it's back to square one. It's always been a bit sensitive to opening just the boot lid on the remote and if I'm not very quick to lift the lid after unlocking it the alarm sounds 4 times.
I keep a Ctek on the battery when the car isn't being used and did replace the battery this year.
I've tried disconnecting the alarm sounder but it didn't make any difference.
I have a code stored for inclination sensor self check failure.
Probably unrelated but the reverse sensors are playing up too, just a long tone when selecting reverse.

I also had to rewire the number plate lights for the MOT in April because the wire had broken but otherwise nothing has changed. I re-paired the remotes to the car just in case too.
If anyone can suggested where to go from here I'd be grateful.

I think I would start off by trying to establish why the boot release doesn't work from the button on the dashboard. The solenoid is behind the driver's side tail light cover in the boot, so start there with a multimeter and see if there is power/ground at that solenoid when the button (dashboard and fob) is pressed. Follow those wires back to the security and locking module under the fuse box in the boot and see if you have power where the wire comes out of the module connector.

Does your fuel door release work on the button on the dashboard?

Next thing to start looking in to is the security and locking module itself. Maybe it has had water damage (along with your parking sensor module). Maybe electrolytic capacitors are starting to fail, hence the intermittent operation you describe. This thread has a lot of details:-

Also telling us what car you have will make things a lot easier, but start with that boot release rather than making any assumptions.

Thanks for your comments dibbit. The car is an 02, xk8 convertible. I did check the reversing sensor module in the spare tyre well and it's nice and dry with no obvious problems. I'll certainly check the security /fuse box area too and report back.

Do the trunk (boot) lights work? If not the trunk micro switch may have failed and can cause all these issues.

Maybe it is going into Valet mode? I had this several times with my 2000XKR because my knee hit the valet switch. Disconnected the switch several years ago and cant say I miss it :-)

Worth checking, thanks. Do you know how to get it out of valet mode?

Valet mode only disables the boot release button by the driver's knee, it doesn't affect the remote fob. To get out of valet mode unlock using the fob (I think if you unlock the boot using the normal key, that also disables valet mode).

The idea is you give the valet the green key and no fobs. All they can do is lock/unlock the doors and start the car with the green key.
