Car alarm going off for no apparent reason
Hi all.
I have an intermittent problem with my alarm going off for no apparent reason. I lock the doors either with the key or the remote. It may be 15 minutes, an hour or 2 days and the alarm goes off. I have tried a Hard reset. I have at the moment removed the fuse, which is inconvenient as it also kills the remote door locking etc.
Anyone else had this problem and found a fix.
Cheers
Ian

Try unplugging the trunk latch switch (this will disable the trunk lights and trunk alarm function) and go back to using the system normally. See if intermittent alarms still happen or not. If the trunk switch was loose or just intermittent it could slip a bit and close contact, which would set off the alarm. The plug is under the liner above the latch.
I have my trunk switch removed at the moment because it was loose in its mounting and not reliably opening/closing.
The same method can be used to test the hood switch, if your car is so equipped. Hood switches were deleted sometime in 95. But the trunk switch is more suspect because it gets slammed all the time!
