Have you checked the gearbox fluid level? Odd I know, but this can cause your problem.

Any codes present?

could be a bunch of things.

oxygen sensors, EGR, MAF, TPS, even the coolant temp sensor.

Also a vacuum leak.

Maybe the camshaft position sensor too.

+1 on all the above.

Old spark plugs will cause that too. Replace only with Champion RC12YC if of unknown age. My car liked to get new plugs every 20k miles.

A faulty Crankshaft Position Sensor may play up once it is warmed up. Not too expensive to replace and try.

Hi! Had the same problem on my 3.2 xj6 for three years. Stall issue wasn't regular but happened only on warm engine. I've changed spark plugs, ignition coils, fuel filter, washed injectors, changed CPS, washed the throttle, cleaned ground points, changed the ECU, fully repaired transmission, changed diff..
The problem appeared from time to time untill I replaced rear ABS sensor, which is also a speedometer sending unit... No trouble codes or something like that appeared, speedo stopped working sometimes, but i'll never think that it could cause such troubles!
Jag mechanics with great work expirience in Moscow coudln't find this issue using official diagnostics unit. If you have a spare ABS sensor - try to change it? Our old-styled ABS with long wire are too expensive, so i just bought used rear x308 hub carriers with abs-sensor and wire and now feel safe from expensive repair in future..
There are a lot of stall issue threads on this forum and in every case trouble is different. Hope you'll fix it!

Bad tank of gas , happens

The X300 tank can be siphoned , at least on mine

Fuel injector cleaner in the tank , Chevron gets good marks

The fuel injector pulse width is at it's shortest at idle , if you had dragging injectors this is where it shows up

Binding Inlet air control valve , this has some mounting hardware that can snap off

Someone recently found the EGR valve " coked " over and was able to get some results from cleaning

The transmission connector on the transmission body left side , this is a " Deutsch " connector and has a unconventional way to remove it

This gives trouble around the 1st gear range from park as the tranission and engine ECU must coordinate with each other

Time for a good grounds cleaning including the large woven strap on the starter motor mounting bolt , best gotton to from the under the car

This thread is well over half a year old.

Don't you hate it when people come to these boards, ask for help, and never share the results?
