We ALL hate that stupid fragile plastic shifter trim plate our Jags come with. A replacement is stupid expensive as well and many are cracked. Even if it's in fine condition, it isn't the most beautiful thing.
Back when I had an XK8, I had obtained an Aluminum shifter trim plate. Now, I have ordered a new one for my XKR. I know some of your have wanted to obtain this item in the past but were unable to find it. Fortunately, it has been re-listed on ebay.
He fabricates these himself. He does take a bit of time to ship, but I can assure you these are high-quality works of art. If you find that there are none available, message him asking to make more and to let you know. He will gladly message you once he has new ones available.
At the time of this posting, he has more than 10 available of each.
Just ordered one for my 03 through his Ebay site and it shipped right away! Thanks for the link, I have been looking for a replacement for weeks. The dealer quoted me over $750.00 for the assembly!!!?
Seems to be a common problem with older XK's. Took a bit more work to install than I thought. Very happy with the results. Find my before and after, Rich.
The 6 speed plate I ordered showed up today. A very nice replacement. The shift point positions are cut out so the illumination shows through. One note if you watch the how to videos. The six speed plate is held on with 5 screws. Two tiny countersunk allen screws on either side of the plate in addition to three pointed out in the video..

Yup... Mine also arrived today.
However, oddly enough, mine was held together with No screws. I have a feeling someone has messed with that before on my car.
I did the 6-speed plate last year. IIRC a common error is to mount the plate onto the plastic OEM. It looks far better to remove the (broken) original plastic and adjust the alu-plate onto the J-Gear frame. I did this with two small torx screws.
Another aspect are the openings for the Gear-Indication LED's. I closed them with clear 10-min. epoxy. Just put a bit of tesa about the openings from the top-side and apply the epoxy from the back.
I finally got tired of gluing old plastic Shifter Plate and order new Aluminum One. After looking at it in the Car and the Pictures on this Thread I'm thinking of Painting the Aluminum Plate to look more like the Original. Looking for opinions from the Forum. Thanks

Ask the seller to black anodize (I think that's the correct term) a trim plate for you. He will do it, however, I am pretty sure he will charge something extra for this service.
Got the Aluminum Plate painted it matte black. Brought to a local Graphic Artist. He painted Stripe and Numbers. Biggest problem was I missed the part about removing the Park Release Plug and sheared the top off of it removing the old Plate. Anyone know where I can get a replacement Plug?
I have my Scangauge on the steering wheel binacle ...pull wheel towards you and this opens a gap between the wood trim and the binacle ...fit Scangauge and push the wheel back. It clamps it fine. Wire easy to conceal..goes out the back of the scangauge . Being in the UK the speedo is way out so I display MPH . You need +12 in the settings to get it to match a GPS
